Ancient Ephesus - ADD-ON TO ISTANBUL PROGRAM

Cooking Class Vacation Details

Visit historical Ephesus – some of the best-preserved Roman ruins in the Mediterranean.  Ephesus was the center of commerce in the ancient world.  Due to its strategic port location, it amassed a great amount of wealth.  The Temple of Artemis, one of the Seven Wonders of the World, was located here.  Sadly, only remnants of its foundations are visible today.  When silt slowly filled the harbor, Ephesus lost its strategic advantage and fell into decline.  Ephesus now sits 6 miles away from the sea.

The area of Ephesus also has great religious significance for Christians, as the House of the Virgin Mary is believed to be the location where Mary may have spent her last days.  In addition, the Basilica of St. John is believed to be built on the grave site of the Apostle John.

But Ephesus isn’t the only location waiting to be discovered….  In your free time, you may opt to explore ancient Pergamum or Didyma, or explore the unique culinary offerings of the organic farm!
