Tapas of Granada

Cooking Class Vacation Details

In the shadow of the stunning Alhambra, the iconic symbol of Muslim architecture in Spain, the town of Granada is a culinary delight. The home of the Spanish ‘tapa’ or small plate, Granada’s cuisine combines Spanish heritage with a distinctly Arabic flair.

A stone’s throw from the entrance to the Alhambra, is the stunning 4-star Alhambra Palace Hotel.  You will live like a Sultan in a hotel crafted in the very image of the Alhambra itself.  With its arched doorways, intricately carved wood ceiling, and detailed arabesques, no other property better captures the romantic character of Granada.

Granada, Spain Cooking Vacations

The kitchen of a local restaurant, based in a traditional “Carmen,” the typical house with garden characteristic of architecture in the area, will be your classroom as you explore the diverse flavors of Granada.  Each of your 3 cooking classes is about 3 hours long and will focus on classical Andalucian cuisine and modern variations on traditional dishes.  Jorge, your chef and instructor, will accompany you to the traditional market and shops to obtain ingredients for your first class.  During the growing season, you will also have the opportunity to select fresh ingredients from the Carmen’s own garden.  Each class is followed by a leisurely lunch where you will savor your creations and enjoy a wine tasting conducted by a local winery each day.  On your last day of class you will sample locally-produced cheeses and be treated to a tasting of the award-winning and ecologically-farmed Riofrio caviar –internationally recognized as one of the world’s best caviars.

In your free time, join one of our unique culinary and cultural excursions with a tapas tour of Granada, tasting tour of Spain, or visit to a historic olive mill.  Or, explore the narrow labyrinth of the Albaycin district, a World Heritage site, where the Moorish influence is still evident in the exotic tea rooms and shop stalls.  Climb to the Mirador San Nicholas and listen to the sounds of flamenco music bouncing off the ancient walls as the sun sets behind the Alhambra.

Fall in love with the mystery and the magic of Granada.
