Cooking Class Vacation Itinerary

Spanish Cooking Classes in Granada, Spain

Day 1 – Sunday – Arrive in Granada.  Transfer from the airport to the newly renovated, 5-star Alhambra Palace Hotel.   Settle in and relax at the hotel before meeting your fellow cooking class participants and your English-speaking guide at the hotel restaurant for a 6-course, welcome dinner specially-designed to introduce you to the traditional local cuisine.  Your guide will give you an overview of the week’s schedule of cooking classes, tastings of unique local products, private tour of the Alhambra, and farewell dinner, along with any excursion options you may have booked during your stay.

Day 2 – Monday, 9:30 AM to 3:30 PM – After breakfast at your hotel, your cooking adventure begins!  You will travel with chef Jorge and your interpreter to the market of San Agustin, situated in the historic center of the city, as well as a few small, traditional shops located outside the market and famous for a different specialty product such as fish, meat, or spices, where you will obtain some of the ingredients for your cooking class.  At approximately 10:30 AM you will head to the restaurant kitchen, where chef Jorge will divide you into groups to tackle today’s menu.  Today’s lesson runs from 10:45 AM to 1:00 PM and, following a demonstration by the chef in preparing an assortment of local sausages, will focus on dishes such as Ajoblanco and lamb ‘a la Pastoril’.  During your lunch based on your own creations, one of the local wineries from Granada or Andalucia will provide you with a wine tasting to accompany your meal.  After lunch, you have the afternoon free to participate in an excursion, explore Granada on your own, or enjoy some down time.  For dinner, you can venture downtown on your own, or join our Gastronomic tour of Spain!

Day 3 -- Tuesday, 10:00 AM to 3:30 PM – After breakfast at your hotel, you will return to the Carmen and stop off in the restaurant’s own vegetable garden to select some seasonal ingredients for today’s dishes.  Fresh produce in hand, you return to the Carmen’s kitchen and begin your second cooking class.  Today’s lesson runs from 10:30 AM to 1:00 PM and, following a demonstration by the chef in preparing Fritura Andaluza using fresh fish from the coast of Spain, will focus on dishes such as “Rabo do Toro” (oxtail) and “Pionono’ with yoghurt sauce and honey.  During a lunch based on your creations, you will enjoy a wine tasting conducted by a local winery.  Following lunch, and some time to rest, at 5:00 p.m. you will be given a private guided tour of the most-visited landmark in Spain, and the symbol of Granada, the Alhambra, returning to the hotel at around 7:30 or 8:00 PM. After your tour, relax in your room and take advantage of free time to explore the local tapas scene.

Day 4 – Wednesday, 9:00 AM to 3:30 PM – After breakfast at your hotel, you will return to the kitchen at 9:00 AM and begin your final cooking class. Today’s lesson runs from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM and, following a tasting of local cheeses, will focus on dishes such as “Migas de Pastor” and sturgeon of Riofrio with Bloody Mary and basil.  Along with a wine tasting to accompany your lunch, your will enjoy a private caviar tasting, sampling and learning about the unique, ecologically-farmed fresh caviar of the Riofrio sturgeon, considered one of the best caviars of the world.  After lunch, you have the afternoon free to do some shopping, participate in an excursion, or enjoy some down time.  This evening you will enjoy a farewell dinner at a restaurant in the Albaycin neighborhood, the old Arab quarter, where you will dine while gazing at the illuminated Alhambra.
